Training for Visual Bible Translation
When: 2024-now
Where: Globally
Who: Deaf Bible translators around the world
The problem:
Deaf believers around the world are translating the Bible into their own languages, but they often lack training and resources to do so.
What we’re doing:
Our Training Team helps equip Deaf translators with the strategies, training, and resources they need to translate God’s Word for their communities.
We also support a team that interprets our FIA translation resources into American Sign Language (ASL).
What that looks like:
We partner with Wycliffe Global Partnerships and the CBBT Training Network to connect with and train Church-Based Bible Translation (CBBT) teams doing visual Bible translation.
Alongside other CBBT trainers, we guide translation teams through a CBBT process. This includes:
Setting up projects run by the local church and community
Accessing high-quality Bible translation resources
Equipping Deaf translators to make translation choices
Training teams and church leadership to ensure the quality and accuracy of resulting translations for themselves
Our Director of Deaf Ministries works closely with the team producing FIA to provide these visual Bible translation teams with Bible translation resources in ASL.
We encourage translation teams to translate the ASL resources into their own sign languages and adjust them to fit their cultural contexts.
