About Us
This community preferred to hear God’s Word spoken aloud and in community rather than to read it individually. In response, the Stringers began to share God’s Word through story telling. Their mission became not only to translate the Bible, but to make it resonate with the heart of the people they were working with and communities like them.
In 2005 Stephen and Tricia moved to South Asia, where they led a multi-organizational partnership that continued their mission by focusing on bringing God’s Word to oral communities — communities who do not rely on written communication for teaching or conveying truth. During this time, they learned how oral Bible storying and church planting could work together to provide new believers access to God’s Word and a way to grow in their faith. The Stringers helped develop story-based church planting programs still in use today.
In 2012 the Stringers moved to England to take on a global role focused on ensuring that church planting efforts would be founded upon and have access to Scripture. During this work, the Stringers learned that communities scarred by trauma find it nearly impossible to comprehend and accept the Gospel. To meet this need, they worked with a group of church planters and trauma healing counselors to develop a story-based and trauma-informed process through which people in trauma could engage with and understand God’s Word to find healing in safe communities.
Now Stephen and Tricia have embarked on a new initiative, Word Collective. Throughout their journey, the Stringers met many like-minded believers, many of whom have joined them in creating Word Collective. Together, the team plans to dedicate themselves to this ongoing mission: To equip churches to bring healing, hope, and lasting change to their communities through God's Word.
